Cycling with the Big 5!
The Kruger 2 Canyon Cycle tour offer the most exciting and challenging opportunity any cyclist would ever have the privilege to partake in.
It is a unique and select riding experience through some of the most renowned Private Game Reserves bordering on the Kruger National Park that are not accessed by the general public.
The next race is due to start on 15 July 2023.
You are cycling in the 'Big 5' terrirtory - lions, leopards, rhinoceros, elephants and Cape buffalo!
The route is about 100 km long and starts at the edge of the Kruger National Park (near Orpen Gate) and heads off through the Timbavati, Thornybush and Kapama Private Game Reserves, then crosses the R40 and continues into the stunning Blue Canyon Conservancy.
That is why the five pelotons of 20 riders are accompanied by experienced armed guides who are more than capable of warding off any potentially dangerous encounters.
The tour is an initiative of the Hoedspruit Rotary Club focused on raising money for anti-poaching initiatives, community conservation and education projects identified in the region. rhinorevolution.org
My husband and I spent an adventurous year away from New Zealand, living on a Wildlife Reserve – Raptors View. We immersed our (then 8 and 11-year-old) children in a new way of life and culture. They attended a year at Southern Cross School that focused on a nature-based learning experience.
It was one of the happiest and most thrilling years of our lives. thescschools.com
One of the best things was the wonderful friends that we met. I was incredibly privileged to have shared this ride with Harriet Nimmo – a zoologist with more than 20 years of experience working in conservation. She has dedicated herself to helping save elephants and rhinos and running Wild Shots Outreach with her equally impressive husband, Mike Kendrick. wildshotsoutreach.org
