Maps make great artwork
Map artwork is an excellent way to personalise your home, highlighting places unique to you or your family. Sometimes it is not that easy to choose artwork that will stand the test of time. Choose maps, they are ideal!
Here are some tips for displaying your artwork.
Simple guides to pick the right size for your wall
- The height at which you hang your artwork should aim to have the centre of the canvas at eye level.
If you are hanging your piece above furniture, give it some room to breathe by hanging it between 15 - 30 cm above the top of the furniture. - Wall art should take up 60%- 75% of the available wall space, i.e. wall space that isn’t covered by furniture.
- When hanging wall art over a bed, a fireplace or a couch, it should be between 2/3 to 3/4 of the width.
- Grab some blue painter's tape or wrapping paper and mark your ideal size.
Bigger is better!
Artwork should take up a large portion of an empty wall and will create a beautiful focal point. I have created so much detail in my maps that I don’t want you to miss out. So when in doubt, go big!
If you have several pieces of map art, hang them in a smaller area, place them side by side, or group them to create an eye-catching gallery wall.
Gallery walls are a fun, eye-catching way to fill a large space when you are drawn to more than one type of map artwork.
Canvas Prints of maps look wonderful with their matt finish and provides a different texture that adds colour depth to your artwork. You don’t have the glare or reflection of your artwork, and it is wonderfully light in weight and thus easier to hang.
Framed maps can complement your room décor. The glass or acrylic in the frame will protect the print from damage, and you can swap out as many different maps as you want over time.
